NEW BILINGUAL CIVIC ENGAGEMENT SONG ENCOURAGES LATINOS TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY
Mi Familia Vota Education Fund reaches Latino voters in an innovative way, motivates people to vote with new song from Los Angeles-based group
Phoenix, AZ — October 23, 2012 — The Presidential Election is only 13 days away and Mi Familia Vota Education Fund (MFV EF) — a national non-profit organization committed to increasing Latino civic participation across the country — is launching a bilingual civic engagement song titled “Mi Familia (Vota)” to encourage Latinos to vote on November 6. Music is one many communications vehicles that Mi Familia Vota Education Fund is using to get out the Latino vote this year.
“Mi Familia Vota Education Fund is always looking for innovative ways to motivate Latinos to get engaged in the electoral process,” said Ben Monterroso, National Executive Director for Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. “This one-of-a-kind song will help us spread the word about the importance of the Latino vote in this election and inspire registered Latino voters to make their voices heard on November 6. The song helps tells the story of the Latino experience in this country and we hope that voters find it inspirational and motivational.”
The 4-minute song is a call to action for the Latino community to exercise their most basic right and vote to ensure a bright future for their family, their friends and their community. The song also highlights the journey of many immigrants to America, the diversity of our community, and how Latinos and immigrants have the power to achieve their dreams by voting their interests at the ballot box. “Mi Familia (Vota)” is a direct result of Mi Familia Vota Education Fund’s long-term partnership with the Jalapeño Brothers.
“We are thrilled to have partnered with an organization like Mi Familia Vota Education Fund,” said Joel Arevalo, member of the Jalapeño Brothers — an ethnically diverse Los Angeles-based hip-hop group. “Most importantly, we’re proud to help spread the message of civic participation to as many Latinos as possible. That’s why we wanted to integrate English and Spanish lyrics throughout the song and reach different audiences.”
